2005 Globalstar Australian Rally Championship

The 2005 Globalstar ARC promised to be closely fought despite the departure of Chris Atkinson to pursue a WRC campaign with Subaru. The Subaru team continued with reigning champion, Cody Crocker, but with Dale Moscatt calling the notes. Team-mate Dean Herridge also had a new co-driver, fellow Western Australian Bill Hayes. Also in a Subaru was Juha Kangas, staying in Australia for a third season with Julia Rabbett and now with the Les Walkden team. Toyota ran three Sportivo Corollas for the Evans couple, Bates and Taylor and new team-member, Ben Barker with co-driver Damien Long. The Mitsubishi Ralliart team was reduced to one car for Victorian Scott Pedder, with new co-driver Glen Weston.

The season was dominated by Crocker and Moscatt, taking six straight heat wins over the first three events. Neal Bates picked up a long overdue heat win in SA, with Pedder taking the other heat for Mitsubishi. Melbourne saw a heat win for Evans, but Crocker and Moscatt took the final three heats to easily win the title.

Subaru again won the Manufacturers title which also included Rally of Canberra and Rally Australia.

Steve Glenney and Bernie Webb won the Privateers Cup in their Subaru while Eli Evans and Matt McAdam won the Subaru Challenge. The F16 Championship went to Leigh and Ken Garrioch in a Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg. The Australia Cup went to John Murray Snr and Jeff Stevens in a Holden Commodore.

Series Regulations

Eligibility was Australian PRC and Group N, but all the top runners were now in Group N.

Points were awarded down to outright tenth, 20-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 on each heat with a 50% bonus on the two heats of the final round. All points counted. A bonus points was also given on each event for the most stage wins (across both heats).

PRC classes were the same as the previous year with four 2WD and two 4WD classes. The two 4WD PRC  classes were not based on capacity but on lists determined by ARCOM, essentially based on technology and cost, with P5B manufactured prior to 1991. There were no Group N classes. Points in classes used the same system as for outright for each heat with a 50% bonus on the final round, with all points to count. Class awards required points to be scored in at least two rounds.

There was also n F16 Championship, Privateers Cup, Australian Cup and Subaru Rally Challenge.

The Manufacturers award was probably based solely on Group N.
