2019 Alpine Rally of East Gippsland

The Alpine Rally of East Gippsland, organised by the Historic Rally Association, was held on November 29 to December 1. The Directors/ Clerks of Course were Owen Polanski and Steve Hollowood.

Round of the East Coast Classic Rally Series

It was a challenging event both for the competitors and the organisers, with initially fires and then wet weather presenting challenging conditions, and the cancellation of almost half the event.

Nathan Quinn and Ray Winwood-Smith notched up their first Alpine win in the RX2, one minute ahead of Kade Barrett and David Guest in the Plymouth Fire Arrow.

Route

The 2019 Alpine was planned in a similar format to previous years with a base in Lakes Entrance and stages to the north beyond Bruthen and to the east beyond Orbost. However, fires and subsequently heavy rain severely impacted the event. Only one of the three forest stages were run on Friday afternoon, while the final two Saturday stages were cancelled. Sunday was abandoned with five stages lost.
