This was the fourth and final year of the transition of the ARC away from Group G. There were a significant number of PRC cars running with four of the six rounds won by PRC cars. There were six different outright winners across the six rounds. But the championship was effectively fought out between David Officer now in PRC Mitsubishi Starion and reigning champion, Barry Lowe in a new Subaru RX Turbo. They each took a single round win. Lowe took the championship by just 4 points. Because Lowe changed co-drivers from Kevin Pedder to Mark Stacey, Kate Officer won the co-drivers title fairly comfortably.
