Highlights

Mainstream special stage rallying continued predominantly as a tussle between WRX Subarus and Evo Lancers. The state title went to the Lancer team of Mike Reeves and Robin Smalley, in contrast to the national title which went to Victorians Cody Crocker and Greg Foletta in a Subaru.

Club rallying continues apace with Gerald Mammi and Geoff Sheeran winning the Victorian Club Rally Series in their Datsun Stanza, assisting the Nissan Car Club to take out the club award.

Classic rallying gained a significant boost with the second running of the “modern” Alpine Rally, with a move to East Gippsland.

Australian Rally Championship

The Victoria round of the Australian Rally Championship was Rally of Melbourne (Results in Oct Unicar)

Series

Victorian Rally Championship

VRC rounds were the David Nutter Ford Rally, Strzelecki Stages, Bega Valley, North Eastern and Akademos.

Outright champions: Mike Reeves and Robin Smalley in a Lancer Evo 3.

2WD champions: Andrew Vibert / David Gallacher, Toyota Corolla TE37

Clubman and Novice awards: Matthew Douglas / Adam Douglas, Toyota Sprinter

Victorian Club Rally Series

There were 6 VCRS Events in 2003. The Bog-A-Duck was to run concurrently with the Akademos but when the Akademos was postponed, the VCRS sub-event was cancelled. The Mt Alexander Trial was calendared but was cancelled.

  4. George Derrick Memorial Trial – Results in Nov Unicar

  6. Yakerboo Trial – Results in Dec Unicar with final series points

Robson Cup Rally Series

This series comprised events that were predominantly tests of navigational skills rather than driver speed. This appears to have been the last year of the Robson Cup.

  2. Daryl Tunbridge Memorial Trial
  3. Nissan Nightmoves
  4. Yakerboo Trial
  5. Moonlight Meander (possibly did not happen)

HRA Rally Championship

This series was solely for members of the Historic Rally Association.

This was the first year of the Alpine being moved to Gippsland.
