The Alpine Rally, organised by the Historic Rally Association and directed by Stuart Lister, was held on November 24 and 25.
Rallying with Attitude
With the bi-annual Alpine Rally now firmly embedded in the classic rallying calendar, the 2007 edition attracted 113 entries with 108 starters, of which 57 completed all the stages. The event was blessed with good weather and all stages ran. Saturday had 10 daylight stages mostly to the east of Orbost totalling 156 km. The night began with the 33,8 km tarmac stage to Buchan then four more gravel stages for a total of 126 km as crews headed back to Lakes Entrance. Sunday offered up eight more daylight stages around Nowa Nowa totalling 117 km for a total event competitive distance of 400 km.
Darryn Snooks and Matt de Vaus in the Stanza ran out clear winners by 3 minutes from Jesse and Sam Robison in a 240Z. With podiums on the previous two editions, Kari Dirickx with Tim Batten placed third in a Datsun 1600, but a mere 9 seconds separated third from sixth.
