Previously called the Healesville stages, director Glenn Cuthbert renamed the event the Rally of Melbourne for the 1994 edition, a name it would carry for more than a decade. The event was conducted over two days, March 5 and 6.

The event was won by Michael Guest and David Green in a Lancer RSe, but only 47 seconds clear of the first VRC contender, Ian Douglas in a Galant VR4.
