Highlights

With the transition from Group G to PRC complete, the six round Victorian Rally Championship was won by Peter Fyfe and Gerry Bashford in their Nissan Pulsar GTi-R 4WD Turbo. It was a closely fought series with five different round winners across six rounds. Fyfe and Bashford didn’t even score points until Round 4!

Other series continued but sometime struggled to attract good fields. The TAUCC Series was won by Russell Whiston and Daryl Williams in a Datsun 1600. This would effectively be the last year of the TAUCC series, with the Victorian Club Rally Series starting in 1992.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria’s round of the Australian Rally Championship was the BP Alpine Rally. It was won by Murray Coote and Coral Taylor in a Mazda 323 Familia.

Series

Victorian Rally Championship

VRC events this year were the Begonia Rally, BP Visco Alpine Rally, Akademos, North Eastern, Blue Ribbon and the Autosport Stages.

Outright Champions: Peter Fyfe / Gerry Bashford, Nissan Pulsar GTI-R

Novice Award: Chris Lowe / James Pollock, Datsun 1600

Victorian Trials Series

The Victorian Trials Series, previously called the Victorian Trials Championship, comprised four rounds: the Borderland Safari, the Experts, the William Harvey Memorial Trial and the Rally of the Rising Sun. Series winners were John Rawson and Dave Smith in a Stanza.

Western Region Trial Series

This series of closed events was for clubs in western Victoria, in particular Geelong, Ballarat and Melton. Events held were:

This closed series was for members of the car clubs in northern and north-eastern Victoria. The series comprised:

TAUCC Series

This series of closed events were for the various technical college and university car clubs. This year the series comprised the:

  1. Autumn Midnight Trial (incorporating the Derrick)- Results in Match Unicar
  2. Nissan Nightmoves – Results in April Unicar
  3. Swinburne 200 – Report and Results in May Unicar (maybe not complete?)
  4. Bog-a-Duck – Results in Sep Unicar
  5. Rivertown Trial – Report and Results in Nov Unicar
  6. Distrial – Results in Dec Unicar

Group 5

This closed series comprised events run by PIARC, CRB Car Club and the Torana Club of Victoria.
