The 2002 VRC was closely fought with two round wins to Mark Fawcett / Kylie Evans (Impreza WRC), two wins for Mike Reeves / Robin Smalley (Lancer Evo 3) and one win for Darryn Snooks / David Johns (Lancer Evo 1) . However it was the consistent performances of Brett Thomson / Rob Vanderree in their Galant VR4 that gave them the championship. just two points clear of David Nutter / Roslyn Martin in a Subaru Impreza WRX. Surprisingly, neither crew won a round, but consistent results saw them accumulate the most points. And because all points counted, the Nutters almost won the championship without placing higher than third.
The 2WD Championship was a clean sweep for Brian Semmens and David Leoncici in the Nissan 200SX, although Leoncini did not enter the final round.
The Novice award was clearly won by Geoff Sefton and Tim Hill in their Escort, although Hill did not enter the first round.
