1999 South West Classic Rally

The South West Classic, sponsored by Wentworth Furniture and organised by the HRA, was held on 11-12 September. It was conducted as a multi-club touring event with speed sub-events. The start was in Bacchus Marsh, the overnight stop in Colac and the finish in Geelong. The speed events included the Mt Leura Hillclimb in Camperdown. The Clerk of Course was Rob Dyer, assisted by Roland Tidd, Dave Smith, Martin Warneke & Glad Fish.

The HRA had amended their rules so that all crews were eligible for outright awards. In 1998, only pre 1968 historic rally cars were eligible for outright places.

The winners were John Hardy and Colin Stark in John’s beautiful blue Alpine Renault A110 1600S. Second were Greg Gibson and Stephen Mitchell in a BMW 2002 with Doug Fernie and Robin Smalley third in a Datsun 1600.

The Initial Results contain the details of each via and each test. However, the amended results contain only the total scores for each component of the event. Amended results were issued because of scoring errors in the initial results on three of the speed tests. The top three places didn’t change as a result of the amendment.
