Highlights

It was a narrow second win for Scott Pedder and Paul Humm in the Victorian Rally Championship. They won from Brett Thomson and Rob Vanderee on the basis of the “best four of five results” rule.

The Victorian Club Rally Series was won by Darren Crozier and Geoff Floyd in a  Holden Gemini. Nissan Car Club won the club award.

Australian Rally Championship

The Victoria round of the Australian Rally Championship was Rally of Melbourne. It was won by Neal Bates and Coral Taylor in a Corolla WRC.

Series

Victorian Rally Championship

VRC events for 2000 were Rally in the Valley, Strzelecki Stages, Rally of Melbourne (two rounds), North Eastern and Cooper Memorial.

Outright champions: Scott Pedder / Paul Humm, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 3

2WD champions: Darren Crozier, Isuzu Gemini PF60
Co-driver: Ross Green (with Murray Rogers)

Novice award: Barry Rowe / Natasha Rowe, MGB GT

Victorian Club Rally Series

There were 6 VCRS events, none cancelled but the Mt Alexander Trial was postponed from 8 April to 30 September. This was the first year of a concurrent VRC and VCRS event – the Strzelecki Stages (effectively combined with the Rivertown Trial).

The following rule changes were implemented for 2000 (see Dec 1999 Unicar for more detail):

  • the definition of a “Rookie – Grade 5” competitor was amended and such competitors prohibited from driving forced induction cars
  • The engine capacities for classes A & B were amended to 1-1400cc and 1401-1600cc (from 0-1300, etc)
  • all vehicles must now have CAMS compliant rollover protection
  • The minimum awards for Formula Commodore were reduced, and
  • The rules for compensatory points were amended.

  2. Strzeleck Stages (Rivertown Trial) – Results in May Unicar but points in question (revised in July Unicar)
  3. Nissan Nightmoves – Results in June Unicar
  4. Mt Alexander Trial – Results in Oct Unicar
  5. Spring 200 Trial – Results in Nov Unicar
  6. George Derrick Memorial Trial – Results in Dec Unicar with final series points

Robson Cup Rally Series

This series comprised events that were predominantly tests of navigational skills rather than driver speed. It comprised [x] events: the [events]
