The Bog-a-Duck Trial/Rally has been the secondary event conducted by the Melbourne University Car Club, with Akademos being the club’s primary event.
Originally called the Winter Trial, the Bog-a-Duck name was introduced by the director of the 1977 edition, Ian Sichlau, as a humorous version of the risks of running and competing in a rally during winter.
The Bog-a-Duck/Winter Trial was initially conducted as a club event, then a round of the TAUCC series (Technical and University Car Clubs) and later was variously a round of the VCRS or a sprint rally.
