It appears that the Cerberus Car Club first conducted the Rivertown Rally in 1977 and 1978. The club’s major sponsor was John Blair Motors, whose principal John Blair was a club member. John Blair sadly died in 1978 and the club decided to rename the Rivertown Rally the John Blair Memorial Rally. It ran with that name until 1983 then fell into abeyance. It was resurrected as the Riverton Trial in the 1990s initially as a TAUCC round and then as a round of the Victorian Club Rally Series. In 2000 and 2001 it was conducted as a sub-event of the Strzelecki Stages. It was to be run as a standalone event in 2002 but was cancelled. The name was resurrected by the club in 2018 for aa rallysprint.
