Highlights

The Victorian Rally Championship was won by Bob Watson and Jeff Beaumont using both a Renault R12 Gordini and a Holden HQ Kingswood V8.

The Clubman Series was closely fought with 5 different winners across the six rounds. Ross Turner and Ian Pearson narrowly won the championship in their Galant.

This was also the last year that the traditional BP Rally was conducted in May, which was won by privateers, Andy Chapman and Laurie Comerford in a Datsun 1600.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria hosted two rounds of the Australian Rally Championship, the Classic Rally and the Golden Alpine Rally. Victorian Warwick Smith won the national navigator’s title navigating for Peter Lang in the HDT Torana.

VRC events for 1973 were the Penfolds, Midlander, Akademos, Experts, Two Day and Derrick.

Outright champions: Bob Watson / Jeff Beaumont, Renault 12 Gordini and Holden HQ Kingswood V8

Victorian Clubman Series

The VCS events for the year were the HAC Invitation, Amateur 100, Brass Monkey, Midyear, Hunter Safari and Winter.

Winners: Ross Turner / Ian Pearson, Mitsubishi Galant
