Highlights

The Victorian Rally Championship was won by Bob Waterhouse and Paul Paterson in their Datsun 1600 1.8L. 

Two International status rallies were held in Victoria in 1976, the Holden Dealers International in October and the Kleber Alpine Rally in November. Both were won by Greg Carr and Fred Gocentas in a Datsun 710.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria hosted two rounds of the Australian Rally Championship, the Marchal Rallye (Round 2) and the North Eastern Rally (Round 5). Fury and Suffern won both the Marchal Rallye and North Eastern in a Datsun 710 but were ineligible for ARC points. Ross Dunkerton and Jeff Beaumont placed second in both events in their Datsun 240Z and went on to convincingly win the national title that year.

Victorian Rally Championship

The 1976 VRC comprised six events: George Derrick Memorial Trial, Brass Monkey Trial, Akademos Rally, Experts Trial, Hunter Safari, Eclipse Motors Rally

Outright Champions: Bob Waterhouse / Paul Paterson, Datsun 1600

Victorian Clubman Series

VCS rounds for 1976 were the Summer Safari, Otway, Yulunga, Mountain, North Central and Mideastern.

Winners: Bob Phillips / Ross Runnalls, Datsun 1600

TAUCC Series

This was the second year of a series of closed events for the various technical college and university car clubs. The series was won by the CCRMIT with individual honours going to Peter Evans and Chris Maniatakis.

Ten events were calendared in the TAUCC Series for 1976 but two were cancelled:

  4. Autumn Midnight Trial
  5. Winter Trial
  6. Amateur Trial
  7. Baxter’s Burn (cancelled)
  8. Western Districts Trial

Overture Rally
