Highlights

The Victorian Rally Championship was won by Geoff Portman and Peter Gale in Peter’s Datsun 1600 (not the Grunter).

The Victorian Trials Championship was won by Steve McLaughlin and Noel Kelly.

The Victorian Clubman Championship was won by Kim Pluim and Ian Swenser.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria’s round of the Australian Rally Championship was the BP Visco Bright Alpine Rally. The rally was won by David and Kate Officer in their Mitsubishi Starion, making Kate the Australian Champion Navigator for 1986, her second national title. In the Drivers category, David finished second to Barry Lowe of South Australia in his Subaru RX Turbo.

The demise of Group G continued with four out of six ARC rounds won by Group A cars (Toyota Corolla GT, Mazda 323 4WD, Subaru RX Turbo, Mitsubishi Starion).

Series

Victorian Rally Championship

VRC events this year were the Begonia Rally, Blue Ribbon Rally, Akademos Rally, George Derrick Memorial Rally and the Djerriwarrah Rally.

Outright Champions: Geoff Portman / Peter Gale, Datsun 1600

State Recognised Award: Andrew Martin / Phillip Martin, Galant

Clubman Award: Brendan McCashney / Grant Waddington, Datsun Stanza

Victorian Trials Championship

The VTC events this year were the Halda Skalda Trial, Eureka Trial, Rally of the Rising Sun and Summer Safari.

Victorian Clubman Championship (Pedders Cup)

VCC events in 1986 were the Halda Skalda, Spring 200, Eureka, Rising Sun, Victoria Cross and Summer Safari.

Western Region Rally Series

This series of closed events was for clubs in western Victoria, in particular Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Hamilton and Melton. Events held were: 

  1. No.1 Trial
  2. Yulunga Trial
  3. Highlander Trial
  4. Daryl Tunbridge Memorial Trial
  5. Bernarras Trial

Riverina & North Eastern Series

This closed series was for members of the car clubs in northern and north-eastern Victoria. The series comprised:

  1. Beaurepairs Trial
  2. White Knuckes Trial
  3.  Spring Trial
  4. Goulburner Trial

 

TAUCC Series

This series of closed events was originally for the various technical college and university car clubs. However, as the difficulty of running events and obtaining sufficient entries gradually increased and other series ceased running, other clubs joined the TAUCC series. This year, that included the Cerberus Car Club and the Melton Motor Sports Club. The series comprised the events listed below. The Forester was originally scheduled to be held in February but ultimately conducted on 9 August. The Autumn Midnight, Bog-A-Duck and Western Districts Trials were all cancelled.
