Highlights

The Victorian Rally Championship was won by Chris Brown and Noel Richards in their Datsun 180B SSS.

Victorians Geoff Portman and Ross Runnalls won their second national title, but this time in the Autosport sponsored Datsun 1600.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria hosted the fifth and final round of the Australian Rally Championship with the Arco Alpine Rally in November. With no factory teams in the ARC, the series became a two horse race between Portman/Runnalls in their Datrally/Autosport Datsun 1600 and Carr/Gocentas in the Fiat 131 Abarth. Although Portman and Runnalls won four of the five rounds, Carr’s consistency in the Fiat ensured a close final result with Portman/Runnalls taking the title on 96 points from Carr/Gocentas on 89.

Series

Victorian Rally Championship

VRC events this year were: Begonia Rally, Canon Zodiac Rally, Camcrusher Rally, Akademos, Rich River Rally, North Eastern Rally, Blue Ribbon Rally, Mountain Rally.

Outright Champions: Chris Brown / Noel Richards, Datsun 180B SSS

Grade 2 Award: Graeme Wise / John Williams, Datsun 1600

Clubman Award: Brian Smith / Peter Mignot, Galant

Victorian Trials Championship

The 1982 VTS comprised eight events: Summer Safari, Four Pointer Trial, North Central Trial, Experts Trial, George Derrick Memorial Trial, Honda Scamper Trial, Melton Djerriwarrh 200 Trial, Rally of the Rising Sun.

Outright Champions: Bob Waterhouse / Paul Paterson, Datsun 1600

Grade 2 Award: Brian Smith /Peter Mignot, Galant

Clubman Award: Barry Thompson / Keith Siler, Datsun 1600

Western Region Rally Championship

This series of closed events, previously known as the Western Region Trial Series, was for clubs in western Victoria, in particular Geelong, Hamilton, Ballarat and Melton. Events held were: 

  1. Yulunga Trial
  2. Daryl Tunbridge Memorial Trial
  3. Moonlight Meander
  4. No. 1 Trial
  5. Cooper Memorial Trial
  6. Bernarras Trial

Riverina & North Eastern Series

This closed series was for members of the car clubs in northern and north-eastern Victoria. The series comprised:

  1. RNES Rally
  2. Goulburner Rally
  3. Winter Rally
  4. Spring Rally

TAUCC Series

This series of closed events were for the various technical college and university car clubs. This year the series comprised the:

  1. Summer Trial
  2. Bog-a-Duck Trial
  3. Autumn Midnight Trial
  4. Swinburne 200
  5. Boomerang Rally
  6. Western Districts Rally
  7. Presidents Trial
  8. Disrally

Combine 6 – Rally

These closed series were predominantly for marque clubs – Datsun, Renault, Peugeot, Ford, Torana plus the VADC.
