Highlights

The Victorian Rally Championship was won by two competitors who weren’t part of the same crew – champion driver was Peter A Thompson in his Datsun P510 2.1L  and champion navigator was Anthony Sartori (navigating for Les Adams).

The Victorian Trials Championship was again won by Chris Wall and Trevor Boyd.

The Victorian Clubman Championship was reinstated, having been discontinued in 1981.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria conducted two rounds of the Australian Rally Championship, the Zodiac Rally in March (results in March Unicar) and the Enka-Fill Alpine Rally in November (results in Nov Unicar). Both were won by Dinta and Kate Officer in their Galant. They also won the national title, but only by a narrow margin thanks to the Group G/Group A points system that saw Ed Mulligan only a handful of points adrift after solid Group A results in his Mazda RX7.

Series

Victorian Rally Championship

VRC events this year were: Peter Stevens Begonia Rally, North Eastern Rally, Camcrusher Rally, Akademos, Myer City Centre Rally, Sandi Surf Jeans Rally

Outright Champion Driver: Peter “Pud” Thompson, Datsun 1600

Outright Champion Navigator: Anthony Sartori (navigating for Les Adams in a Datsun 1600)

State Recognised Award: Les Adams / Anthony Sartori, Datsun 1600

Western Region Trial Series

This series of closed events was for clubs in western Victoria, in particular Bendigo, Hamilton, Geelong, Ballarat and Melton. Events held were:

  2. Daryl Tunbridge Trial
  3. Cooper Memorial

Riverina & North Eastern Series

This closed series was for members of the car clubs in northern and north-eastern Victoria. The series comprised:

  5. Gold Digger Rally

TAUCC Series

This series of closed events were for the various technical college and university car clubs. This year the series comprised the:

  1. Presidents Trial
  2. Boomerang Rally

  4. Autumn (in Spring) Midnight Trial
  5. SCC Western Districts (27 Oct?)
  6. Disrally

Combine 6

This closed series was predominantly for marque clubs – Datsun, Renault, Peugeot, Ford, Torana plus the VADC. Events:

Shamateur II

Edition number 2 of Ye Olde BP Rally was held in February, designed to replicate the longer distance rally experience that the original BP Rallies provided.
